Facebook is caught up in what appears to be a smear campaign against Google. The company hired the PR agency Burson-Marsteller to convince news outlets to investigate Google for invading users’ privacy. Facebook confirmed the report and said that Google is misusing Facebook’s data for its own gain. In other news, the White House made a recent proposal to Congress for bolstering our laws and procedures against cybercrime. The plan includes protecting critical infrastructure and creating national data reporting for affected companies. The proposal would give the Department of Homeland Security the ability to swiftly assist companies under a cyber-attack. And finally, a new study by mobile manufacturer Ericsson shows that 35% of those surveyed use smartphone apps before getting out of bed. The results show that regardless of phone or operating system, users are turning to smartphones strictly for the apps. Are apps changing the way we behave—in the morning?
