Nintendo’s Wii U hit store shelves yesterday, and customers who pre-ordered one in time or were lucky enough to find one in stores are now enjoying Nintendo’s newest console in their homes. But those customers are also facing a system update that could take up to several hours to complete, depending on your Internet connection. The Wii U was shipped without a lot of its online functions, like access to Nintendo’s eShop, which is what the system update fixes. For those with nothing better to do, it’s merely an inconvenience. But for parents with little kids eager to start up a new Mario game, it’s a little bit of a nightmare. If you’re planning on giving the system to a loved one this holiday season, I’d recommend setting the console up early and downloading the update ahead of time. That way, you’ll get the update out of the way and can get right to the action after the wrapping paper is torn off.
