There you have it. Mark Zuckerberg, LeBron James, Lena Dunham and Justin Timberlake are the four most influential people of our generation.
Don’t agree? Before you generate a Millennial mountain of your own, hear me out. These young folks are not just cultural icons; they all possess leadership skills we should strive to emulate.
Mark Zuckerberg, 29
When the Facebook founder makes decisions, a billion people react. That’s three times more than President Obama. Zuckerberg’s leadership is defined by his vision and willingness to take chances. The social media mogul always makes headlines, which gives us ample opportunity to learn from his successes and failures.
LeBron James, 28
Aside from the whole ‘taking his talents to South Beach’ fiasco, The King has had a remarkably consistent track record off the court. LeBron knows if he wants to keep pace with Michael Jordan, he can’t let drama and nonsense get in the way. When it comes to basketball, the two-time NBA champ is all business. It’s a lesson in focus and discipline all Millennials should take to heart.
Lena Dunham, 27
On ‘Girls,’ Dunham bares her soul (and plenty of skin) as she maneuvers the twists and turns of young adulthood. The writer/actress is raw, honest and transparent, and that’s why she’s become a household name among twentysomethings. How can she help your own career? Say what you mean, stand behind it and be genuine with others. Authenticity matters.
Justin Timberlake, 32
Mr. Versatility. Is there anything JT can’t do? Music, acting, comedy… the guy is everywhere. What does he mean for you? The more skills you have, the greater your value. There’s no room in the marketplace for one-trick ponies, anyway. Treat your life as a master’s degree and never stop gaining an education.
