T-Mobile on Thursday announced a new promotion designed to woo tablet buyers by offering more free data during 2014 for customers that activate a tablet on their network. It’s part of the company’s three-day news blitz that began Wednesday with the introduction of a new low-end, $40-per-month phone plan. T-Mobile’s “Operation Tablet Freedom” lets existing voice customers add a tablet to their plan for free and get more than a gigabyte of free data through the end of the year. “With this announcement, T-Mobile’s launching a full-on assault against the restrictions and pain points that keep tablet owners from experiencing life beyond the Wi-Fi zone,” T-Mobile CEO John Legere said in a statement. T-Mobile said it will offer tablets for no money down and that the total price will not exceed what a customer would pay for the comparable Wi-Fi model.
