Please follow the links on this page and sign-up for free web accounts. If you already have an account for a given website, please make sure you have all of your username and passwords for the sites with you at the seminar. We will be logging on the each of these websites during the class. Social Networks Please make sure you have a username and password for each of the following social networks. They are all free. IMPORTANT: Please join the facebook group Get Digital: Reinvent Yourself and Your Career for the 21st century economy. We will be using this facebook group extensively in class. Read an excerpt from Shelly's book Get Digital about Social Network Etiquette. News Content Please make sure you have a username and password for the New York Times website. Only one login is required for Google. We will explore gmail, the Google calendar, Spreadsheets & Docs, iGoogle, and review Google Adwords and Adsense. There is an extraordinary suite of applications called Google Applications for Business. We will cover them, but not logon. You may want to spend some time learning about them at iGoogle (http://www.google.com/igo) Google Apps (http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/index.html) - not required for this course, but you may want to read about it. Utilities (Optional) To obtain a username and password you will need to give both Amazon and 1and1.com your credit card information and sign-up for their services. We will cover both of these sites in the course. Amazon Web Services (http://aws.amazon.com/) -- Amazon is going to be used for backing up your files. It is a pay-as-you-go, pay only for what you use cloud-based storage system. It is extremely inexpensive and more than worth the time to learn. Of course you can cancel your account after the class if you don't want to continue using it. Or, you can opt not to sign up and just follow along as we cover the material. 1and1.com -- is offering all kinds of free opportunities. We suggest signing up for the 1&1 Business Package. It's $9.95 per month, but the first three months are free. Here, we'd like you to pick a domain name that clearly matches your name or business. Please make sure it is a .com name. There is no need to purchase all of the other iterations (ie: .net, .org, .biz, .tv) at this time. You might still be able to get your full name, like www.shellypalmer.com or perhaps you can get the initials of your company like, www.amvgllc.com. Our goal is to get you signed up and ready to learn how to use your new domain by the time your course starts. IMPORTANT: If you already have a domain name and matching email address, you do not need to signup for any 1and1 package.
