A new study from the U.N. identifies mobile phones as an important tool for improving the lives of the poorest people in developing countries. Mobile phones can play a role in creating new jobs for people with little education or resources. While mobile penetration is only 58 percent in developing countries, the subscription rate is rising rapidly.

Verizon Will Sell The iPad
Verizon will start selling the Apple iPad beginning October 28th. Right in time for the holiday shopping season, Verizon will carry three Wi-Fi models of the iPad. Analysts predict that over 20 million iPads will be sold by next year.

Facebook and The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLADD) are working together to curtail the amount of anti-gay bullying and hate speech on the Internet. The issue has gained more attention after the recent suicides of two teens who were bullied online due to their sexuality. Facebook has a strict policy against hate-speech, but it is still a major destination for anti-gay activity.

U.S. #1 Spammer Worldwide
Where does most of email spam originate? The United States. A new report from Sophos revealed that the U.S. is responsible for 19 percent of the world’s spam, which is twice as much as India who came in 2nd place. The report also notes the significant growth of spam on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
