Multiple reports show that Google’s Android app store will eclipse the size of Apple’s by August of this year. The Android Market is expected to have around 425,000 apps by that time, but does it really matter? While Android is experiencing much faster growth, only a small percentage of apps actually generate revenue. In other news, China recently created a new central agency that will serve to regulate the country’s Internet. The State Internet Information Office will continue China’s agenda of cracking down on dissidents and punishing violators. Preexisting Chinese organizations are fighting for the very lucrative, regulatory power. And finally, Apple will release its newest operating system, Lion, through the Mac App Store. Discs will be available if you don’t have broadband, but the shift to digital downloads is here to stay. By removing physical media, Apple can make smaller laptops with larger batteries.
