According to a new survey of security professionals worldwide, data breaches are much more common than we’d expect. 59% of all companies have been victims of hacking two or more times in the past year. 41% of the attacks are costing companies more than half a million dollars. In other news, the Wall Street Journal reports that the Federal Trade Commission is about to serve Google with subpoenas for anti-trust violations. Some argue that Google unfairly sends its users back to its own content and services. While Google receives two-thirds of U.S. searches, a monopoly is only illegal if it’s abused. And finally, American Express is partnering with the mobile app Foursquare to create a national mobile payment system. The program would tie a user’s Amex to their Foursquare account and allow companies to rebate customer’s purchases. Checking in to the location would make you eligible for the credit.
