Despite a continued economic recession, Black Friday spending rose over 16% from last year. Shoppers spent a total of $52.4 billion, nearly $20 billion of which was spent through online shopping. The spending doesn’t end there; over 50% of those surveyed said they’d continue shopping online during Cyber Monday. In other news, the FBI arrested four hackers who are suspected of hacking AT&T’s phone systems. The same Saudi terrorist group that funded the 2008 attack on Mumbai allegedly paid the hackers commission for the deed. AT&T said its network was not affected by the attacks. And finally, NASA successfully launched the Mars Science Laboratory, its newest rover that will survey the surface of Mars. It will take eight months for the rover to land, where it will examine the planet by drilling rock and filming HD footage.
