We knew it was coming, but Stripe, the fast-growing Web payment enabler, has announced that businesses can now accept payments in 139 currencies – which is 135 more than what was possible before. Founded in 2010 and launched a year later, Stripe allows website owners and developers to begin accepting payments online with little more than the addition of a few lines of code. It finally arrived in Europe in 2013, having previously been restricted to the US and Canada. Before Tuesday, however, businesses could only charge in US/CA dollars, euros and pounds sterling (UK), but now that has been increased to a whopping 139 currencies. Though it’s worth noting here that this only applies to the US and Europe. Canada, for some reason, hasn’t been included, neither has Australia, where it has been a beta product for a few months.
