If you use a smartphone, there’s a big, open, easy-to-access window on your world for anyone to access and exploit. Until now.

Vysk Communications recently unveiled the QS1 — a protective case that makes it virtually impossible for others to eavesdrop on or capture your conversations.

The case features a proprietary processor that encrypts your calls while also engaging a mechanical device to ensure no one hears what you don’t want them to hear. This system also prevents any metadata trail from being created. It puts your cameras and microphones on absolute lockdown and provides for encrypted private texting. And the best part? It works on your iPhone or Samsung smartphone, which means you don’t have to learn a new OS or shell out cash for a new phone.

The heart of the QS1 is in a protective case for iPhone 5 and 5S and Samsung Galaxy S5 and S4. When activated, it encrypts voice communications, locks out microphones and the front and rear cameras. The system has two mechanical camera shutters, a jamming system for all microphones, a dedicated 3.5 mm jack for encrypted calling via wired headset and a proprietary encryption processor for secure calling. Encryption takes place at the source, made even more secure with the Vysk Encrypted Privacy Network. The case offers two privacy modes:

  • Lockdown Mode blocks cameras and jams microphones.
  • Private Call Mode adds telephone covered by a monthly subscription ($9.95).

The monthly subscription lets you speak with other Vysk subscribers in absolute privacy over the Vysk Encrypted Privacy Network. No one – not even Vysk – will know the identity of the caller or the recipient. No data is collected – no phone numbers, call times or content – so there is no data to record. Because nothing is recorded, nothing is at risk. The Vysk QS App – which will be available via the Google Play Store, iTunes or the App Store – will work exclusively with the subscription service to provide access to the Vysk Encrypted Privacy Network.

“Even for those of us who think we have nothing to hide, there are people going to great lengths to listen to your phone conversations to gain access to your confidential information,” said Vysk co-founder and CEO Victor Cocchia. “Virtual trespassers — from sophisticated espionage groups to government agencies — can gain access to every word you speak and everything your cameras, texts and microphones reveal, completely unknown to you.”

Interested? You can pre-order your device now for $229 at VYSK.com or through enterprise sales channels, with delivery scheduled for early fourth quarter 2014.

Vysk also unveiled the EP1, a stylish, everyday protective case that guards against cyber criminals remotely accessing your camera, photos and texts — to be sold exclusively at Best Buy. Like the company’s QS1 case with telephone encryption housed in the case itself, the EP1 starts with a hardware solution that puts your camera on lockdown with a proprietary shutter system that engages at the flick of a switch. With the purchase of the EP1 case, consumers gain access to the exclusive Vysk Privacy Network to send and receive encrypted private texts and use of an encrypted private photo gallery. The Vysk Privacy System also prevents any metadata trail from ever being created.

The EP1 charges your phone, offering 120 percent additional battery power. It also serves as a protective case for iPhone 5/5S and Samsung Galaxy S5. Offering plenty of functionality, the case also boasts great style and will available in gold, blue, black and gunmetal grey. The EP1 will arrive in September 2014 for $129.99.
