Today, I want to bring your attention to two founding principles of the United States of America: the rule of law and the right to a fair trial.
You have an absolute right to your personal politics. You have an absolute right to take a side. But the “right” to have personal politics and the “right” to take a side are granted to you by the “Rule of Law.”
Please, let’s stop arguing who is right and who is wrong; the Constitution says that the decision is to be made by a trial in the Senate. That said, our Senators must hold a fair trial.
The legal definition of a fair trial is one that is conducted fairly, justly, and with procedural regularity by an impartial judge, and in which the defendant is afforded his or her rights under the U.S. Constitution.
Among the factors used to determine whether a defendant received a fair trial are the effectiveness of the assistance of counsel, the opportunity to present evidence and witnesses, the opportunity to rebut the opposition’s evidence and cross-examine the opposition’s witnesses, the presence of an impartial jury, and the judge’s freedom from bias.
Please write to your Senators and demand that a fair trial be held. The soul of our constitutional republic is at stake.
