It’s been a big week for Microsoft. At a press conference shrouded in mystery, the company announced its first tablet computer. Yesterday, it followed up by releasing details about its newest mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8. Since entering the mobile phone market, Microsoft has struggled to keep up with Android and Apple, but don’t count them out just yet. Though Microsoft lags behind its competitors in mobile device sales, Windows Phone 7.5 has an elegant easy to use interface and Windows Phone 8 will be very similar. The new OS will also be tied very closely to the desktop version of Windows 8 offering extraordinary integration between the Microsoft Office suite, Xbox 360 and Microsoft’s new Skydrive storage cloud. Apple creates such a media storm that it’s easy to forget that over 90% of personal computer users live in a Windows world. And seamless integration between phone and PC could make all the difference for Microsoft.
