Obscure but cool at NAB 2005

There was a bunch of high technology at NAB 2005, but not all of it was packaged for sale or even obvious to show-goers.  Tucked in the back in a small booth were the nice folks from Final DraftFrank Colin, VP Product Development was kind enough to show me their latest offering of scriptwriting software for film, television and radio.  In a world of cutting edge production technology one might forget that you still need a script.  Final Draft is one of the most highly evolved script creating and editing programs I’ve seen to date.

Just down the aisle, I visited Craig Campbell, Technical Director of Nero.  You might use them as your CD burning software, but they are about to announce extremely useful DVD authoring software and a new “media center” solution that is sure to make some waves.

Around the corner and almost hidden from view, Philippe Guillotel, Technical Advisor Researh & Innovation for Thomson showed off their new codecs and integrated IPTV set-top box designs.  They’ll build you one, if you’d like.

Then I finally go to touch the highly pre-sold, Edirol R-1 multiformat .mp3/.wav audio field audio recorder.  It sounds fantastic, it’s really inexpensive and it will absolutely change the way people record live performances and interviews in the future.
