In the face of overwhelming evidence that "something must be done," my fear is that they are going to do something. It will be a political knee-jerk reaction to a problem so complex that the most informed people in the world cannot come to a consensus about a regulatory strategy, let alone a tactical regulatory roadmap. 60 Minutes ran one of its typical one-sided hit pieces last night as it featured the “big reveal” of the Facebook whistleblower. This time, they have “hard evidence” that Facebook works as designed. How is any of this a surprise? Continue Reading →

The Rise of Tattleware

Microsoft Teams and Zoom no longer come with prebuilt productivity scores, but that has not stopped the rise of spies at work. As more and more business is being done from remote locations, the old adage "what gets measured, gets managed" is alive and well. Continue Reading →
Nielsen has been part of the answer to most of these questions for as long as anyone can remember. Yesterday, the Media Rating Council (MRC), a third-party industry watchdog, officially suspended its accreditation of Nielsen. Said differently, the MRC no longer trusts some of Nielsen's numbers. Can you? Continue Reading →

OnlyFans
In a move that was as swift as it was stunning, OnlyFans reversed its decision to ban sexually explicit content on its app. I'm sure you are comforted to know that OF's "uncensored, user-generated porn behind a paywall" business will continue uninterrupted. Continue Reading →

The other half are split between "masks required, but vaccines are optional" and "no requirements of any kind." Continue Reading →
Blockchain Fad
Technology is meaningless unless it changes the way we behave. As many of you have pointed out, my writing is increasingly focused on blockchain, cryptocurrency, smart contracts and NFTs, decentralized finance (DeFi), Web 3.0, and the role AI and other nascent computational tools may play in the future. As you know, almost $8 trillion of wealth vaporized when the dot-com bubble burst in 2000. Those speculative losses didn't have anything to do with the underlying technology; it was all about the hype. With that in mind, think about this... Continue Reading →
