Wilocity

WilocityThere are several empowering technologies on display here at the 2013 International CES. One great example is Wilocity. It doesn’t make PC’s, it makes them wireless – but in this case, for both the mobile computing platform and markets – Wilocity’s next-gen 60 GHz multi-gigabit wireless chipsets are making wireless, better. These chipsets will allow users to connect to a tri-band network from any device, and share and backup content virtually instantaneously. Compared to other wireless solutions, users will experience a 10-fold increase in transfer speed, decreasing wait time exponentially. Wilocity says it designed its breakthrough wireless solution to create an entirely new mobile computing and wireless networking experience. Its technology delivers the industry’s first truly wireless experience, and breaks the cycle of cable replacement and frees the mobile computing platform from size constraints. On the techy-er side, Wilocity thinks that future Wi-Fi devices will use three unlicensed frequency bands, adding the 60 GHz band to the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands that already exist in Wi-Fi n devices. This evolution to the 60 GHz band compliments existing “whole-home” wireless networks with multi-gigabit networking capabilities. Wilocity’s technology, coupled with a traditional Wi-Fi device, delivers tri-band networking capabilities that offer multi-gigabit wireless connectivity while ensuring backward compatibility with existing Wi-Fi networks. These tri-band devices will handover sessions from the 60 GHz band to the 2.4 or 5 GHz band, creating a seamless user experience.
