Coronavirus (COVID-19) Real-time Heatmaps

COVID-19 Heatmap

While there may be no single source of truth for information regarding the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19), David Zotter, CTO of Ipsos, was kind enough to share links to three sites that are mapping the outbreak in real time.

I hope you find this information useful. We’re using it (and other sources) to attempt to understand the size and scope of the problem and, of course, to help our clients estimate the impact COVID-19 will have on their respective businesses.

Trends and Questions

Travel and event marketing trends are already clear. We are seeing all kinds of cancellations and postponements for important annual events. We are also seeing supply chain problems across every industry we cover (apparel, tech, FMCG, auto, retail, etc.).

Our real-time survey that asks “Has your business felt the impact of COVID-19?” is sitting approximately at 60 percent yes, 40 percent no. You can take the survey below.

Interestingly, the consensus among most of our clients is that the virus may not infect many people in the United States, but the effect of the virus from international cases will be unavoidable and harsh. One financial services professional I spoke with said, “You’re going to start to hear the term ‘supply shock‘ from everyone. In America, we’re used to ‘demand shock,’ but supply shock is rare in this country, and its inflationary impact could be severe.” Not my words, but a point of view that is worthy of consideration.
