Infection Trends
New research at the University of Chicago finds that Google search trends are good indicators for tracking infectious disease. Search volume for the terms MRSA and staph from 2004-2008 follow nearly identical patterns to the rate of infection. The same type of trend tracking is also successful in the spread of influenza.
